Job Description:
The University of Tennessee Medical Center, an academic medical
center located in Knoxville, Tennessee is seeking a Board
Certified, Radiation Oncology Medical Director. Qualified
candidates should be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in
Tennessee. Radiation Oncology is located within the 108,000 square
foot University of Tennessee Cancer Institute (CI) and is presently
staffed by three radiation oncologists. The CI serves as a tertiary
referral center for a 21 county region and has undergone
considerable expansion due to the growth of Surgical Oncology,
Gynecologic Oncology, Medical Oncology, Urologic Oncology, ENT
Oncology and Neuro-Oncology programs. Highlights of the program
are: Busy clinical radiation oncology practice with 1000 new
consults a year and a strong referral base from our specialists
State of the art technology with two Varian Truebeam linear
accelerators, a Varian Clinac iX, BrainLab SRS, an active SBRT
program, prostate brachytherapy and HDR brachytherapy Integrated
institution-wide clinical trials program; NRG member institution
Comprehensive support services (social worker, dietician,
palliative care, integrative medicine) Collaborative team
environment Multiple site specific tumor conferences (daily, Monday
thru Friday) The Medical Director will provide physician leadership
and clinical oversite for the Radiation Oncology Division. The
ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in
clinical radiation oncology as well as experience in administration
at an academic medical center. An interest in GI malignancies and
lymphoma is desirable, but not mandatory. Candidates will be

Responsible to the Sr. Vice President of Strategic Development,
Director of the Cancer Institute, and the Department Chair of
Radiology. Provides general medical management, supervision,
education and direction to the Radiation Oncology Division Works
cooperatively with hospital team members, hospital medical staff,
professional staff and administration Participates in the
maintenance and development of quality assessment/quality
improvement, utilization review, peer review, outcomes assessment,
risk management and educational programs that are consistent with
the requirements of the hospital, medical staff and accrediting and
licensing agencies Successfully leads and supports the radiation
oncology team through ASTRO-APEx accreditation Reviews, evaluates
and actively participates in the development of Radiation Oncology
policies and procedures including best practice standards for the
medical staff Collaborates with University Health System and Cancer
Institute leadership to achieve strategic goals through short and
long term planning for the organization, the Cancer Institute and
the Radiation Therapy Division Establishes/attends physician and
program meetings to enhance communication and support collaborative
discussion and decision making Provides leadership in meeting
expectations of patients, families and referring physicians.
Manages medical staff call and vacation schedules. Evaluates
medical staff at regular intervals based on established performance
metrics. Cultivates clinical research programs in coordination with
the Office of Clinical Trials Maintains competence as a practicing
radiation oncologist. Communicates with Sr. VP of Strategic
Development, Director of the Cancer Institute, the Director of
Radiation Oncology and Vice President of the Cancer Institute
concerning medical and administrative issues and services related
